Screening Process

When calling to book your appointment: (1-877-LES-YEUX)

  1. Basic information is given.
  2. Some health information is collected.
  3. An appointment with your nearest imaging center is provided.

At the imaging site:

  1. A consent form explains the procedure.
  2. Your vision is tested.
  3. Your retinas are imaged using a special camera.

Then you can leave!
The normal total time of the procedure is of about 15 minutes. *

After you have left:

  1. The data and special images are sent to medical specialists who will interpret the images in the following days. Security and confidentiality of the information is provided at all times.
  2. You are contacted with your screening results.
  3. Should your condition lead to further evaluation and/or treatment, all possible help will be provided for timely referral, follow-up, or treatment.
  4. All medical doctors involved in your care as well as your optometrist will receive a detailed report of your condition. You will receive a letter reporting your screening results.

* Certain individuals with smaller pupils may need to have their pupils dilated in order to obtain better quality images of the eyes. They may have to wait for about 20 minutes for the dilating drops to take effect. Vision could thereafter become blurry for about 4 hours IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO DRIVE A VEHICLE IF THE PUPILS ARE DILATED WITH DILATING DROPS.
