Our Mission

Laboratoires de la Rétine RD is a medical screening service developed to facilitate and promote the screening of the two main causes of blindness in developed countries: age related macular degeneration (AMD) in persons aged over 50 years and diabetic retinopathy in persons aged less than 50 years.

Now that new efficient pharmacological treatments for one type of AMD (wet or exudative) that stabilize and even restore some lost vision are available, there is a need to reach to patients who are at highest risk for severe visual loss from AMD and to obtain accurate and timely diagnosis as visual results are improved by timely treatment.

The main challenge to save visions from AMD is to increase knowledge about the disease and its symptoms so that affected individuals may act rapidly to slow the progression of the disease or even repair some of its damages.

Laboratoires de la Rétine RD aims at educating about this disease, promoting and facilitating access to screening of this disease for individuals who may be at higher risk of visual loss and ensure timely treatment by medical specialists if needed.

Laboratoires de la Rétine RD believes that better access to rigorous, reliable and timely screening services for AMD offers the best chance of preventing disease and preserving the vision of the rapidly aging population. Although health resources are limited, through telemedicine it aims to improve screening rates while streamlining resources and fast tracking urgent pathologies.

Laboratoires de la Rétine RD is under the direction of Doctor Marie Carole Boucher, ophthalmologist, specializing in the medical and surgical diseases of the retina and the vitreous. Laboratoires de la Rétine RD is a partner of l’Association québécoise de la dégénérescence de la macula (AQDM).
