New Screening Service for AMD through Teleophthalmology
New pharmacological treatments for exudative AMD have emerged that stabilize and even restore some lost vision that has led to improvement in identifying patients who are at high risk for severe visual loss and to obtain accurate and timely diagnosis as well as timely treatment of AMD.
- This new telemedicine service uses advanced imaging technologies to facilitate access to medical screening for AMD.
- Identifies the disease in its early stages.
- Patients do not have to wait to visit an ophthalmologist.
- Helps assess the level of risk in 5 years of advanced AMD in one or both eyes.
Screening Process
- Images are taken inside of each eye with specialized cameras without the need to dilate the pupils for most patients. The images are then forwarded to a medical specialist who can identify the signs and symptoms of AMD.
- These images are coupled with specialized imaging technology (OCT) that can precisely show the internal structure of the retina.
- Medical specialists quickly and effectively diagnose the images and forward their recommendations for prevention, follow-up, or treatment.
- In the presence of any active disease, a timely medical appointment is facilitated.
